Accessibility Statement

Everyone deserves a place to belong — including online. The Rooted Collective is committed to making this site usable for people of all abilities, and we treat accessibility as an ongoing part of our work.

Our commitment

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive differences. We also design with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in mind.

What we’ve done

Accessibility features built into this site include:

  • Keyboard navigation. Every interactive element can be reached and operated with a keyboard, and a “Skip to main content” link lets you bypass the navigation.
  • Visible focus indicators. A clear outline shows where you are on the page as you tab through it.
  • Semantic structure. Proper headings, landmarks, and labelled regions help screen readers convey the page in a logical order.
  • Color contrast. Text and essential controls are chosen to meet the WCAG AA contrast ratios so they stay readable.
  • Respects reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, our animations are minimized or turned off, and no content depends on motion to be seen.
  • Text alternatives. Meaningful images include descriptive text; purely decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
  • Responsive, resizable layout. The site adapts to your screen and remains usable when text is enlarged.

Conformance status

This site substantially conforms with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. “Substantially conforms” means we meet the standard across the site, though some content may not yet fully conform. We test with automated tools and manual keyboard and screen-reader checks, and we address issues as we find them.

Known limitations

Despite our efforts, some limitations may remain. Rich animated and decorative elements are presented as enhancements only and are hidden from assistive technology, so no information is lost if they aren’t rendered. If you encounter a barrier that isn’t listed here, please let us know — your feedback helps us prioritize fixes.

Compatibility

This site is designed to work with current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge) and common assistive technologies, including screen readers such as VoiceOver, NVDA, and JAWS. Using the most recent versions gives the best experience.
